Water travels through six stages of filtration:

In stage 1, a one-micron pre-filter pad captures dirt, silt, sand, rust, and cysts.

In stages 2 and 3, KDF55 and KDF85 filtration media, made from copper and zinc, electrochemically remove contaminants through the process of oxidation/reduction (REDOX). KDF removes chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, iron, mercury, lead, aluminum, nickel, and other dissolved metals. KDF also inhibits the growth of bacteria and mold throughout the entire filter.

In stage 4, an ion exchange resin removes heavy metals and softens the water.

In stage 5, a granulated activated carbon filter adsorbs chlorine and chlorination byproducts like chloramine and trihalomethanes (THMs), as well as benzene, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), PCBs, MTBEs, pesticides, and hundreds of other synthetic chemicals, plus foul odors and bad tastes. The activated carbon media is made from high-grade coconut shell carbon.

In stage 6, one-micron post-filter pad removes any remaining suspended particles.
