The Crystal Quest tall single countertop water filter features 6 stages of filtration.
Stage 1: A 1-micron pre-filter pad removes suspended particles like sediment, silt, sand, rust, dirt, and cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia.
Stages 2 and 3: The water flows through KDF-55D and KDF-85D filter media, made from copper and zinc. KDF electrochemically removes contaminants through the process of oxidation-reduction (REDOX). While standard carbon filters tend to lose effectiveness over time, KDF media continues working well through the entire life of the filter. KDF removes chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, iron, lead, mercury, nickel, aluminum, and other dissolved metals, and it inhibits the growth of bacteria throughout the whole filter unit.
Stage 4: An ion exchange resin softens the water and removes heavy metals.
Stage 5: Granulated activated carbon (GAC) adsorbs chlorine, trihalomethanes (THMs), benzene, pesticides, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), PCBs, MTBEs, and hundreds of other chemical contaminants, as well as bad tastes and odors. The GAC filter media is made from high-grade coconut shell carbon.
Stage 6: A 1-micron post-filter pad removes any remaining suspended particles.
The Crystal Quest Tall Double Countertop Water Filter features an additional carbon block filter, which removes VOCs, pesticides, industrial solvents, and other synthetic chemicals - and it captures sediment, prolonging the life of the multi-stage filter.
